Mar Vista House One: The exterior's design was intended to be a transitional
contemporary and suburban sprawl mix. The idea is that it would
blend in with the existing suburban tract homes built in the late 40s,
and also with the contemporary homes that are sure to built in the near
future. This home was designed to allow in plenty of natural light, but not
heat. The house utilizes both cross breezes and stack
ventilation. These are ways of Passively cooling a home.
The house also has an open plan that integrates the outside with the
inside.
The light colors on the exterior are to reflect sunrays and keep the
house cool. The front porch soffit offers shade for the south east
facing windows. At the other end of the house a trellis protects
the patio from the mid-day sun.
